Jane Stewart
Special Representative to the United Nations and Director, ILO Office for the United Nations

Hon. Jane Stewart, PC is a former Canadian politician who was first elected to Parliament in 1993 and has held a number of Ministerial-level posts, over her 10 years in elected office.

Ms. Stewart’s Ministerial portfolios include Minister of National Revenue (1996-1997), Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development, and Minister of Human Resources Development (1999-2003).

In 2004, Ms. Stewart was selected to serve as Director, Skills and Employability Department at the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, Switzerland. Ms. Stewart was then appointed to the post of Acting Executive Director of ILO’s Employment Sector working extensively at the international level on issues of full employment, fair globalization and decent work.

With the growing importance of the Decent Work Agenda in international development, Ms. Stewart was appointed to the position of Special Representative to the United Nations and Director of the ILO New York Office.
