On October 26th 2012, hundreds of trade unionists and academics met to discuss the evolution of union practices and strategies. Amongst the issues discussed were, the strategies for recruiting new members, the integration of young people and immigrants into the labour movement, the role of social media as a means of communicating with members, the particular challenges facing public sector unions, the effects of union mergers, trade union initiatives around investment and sustainable economic development, public sector restructuring, etc.

STUDY DAYS
on Union Futures

On Octobre 25th and 27th 2012, over a hundred and fifty academics from all five continents met at HEC Montréal to share their most recent research insights and findings. Amongst the themes covered were, the new approaches to organizing, union renewal in the Global South, the strength of intra-union, inter-union and international networks, the impact of changes in employer strategies and labour law, organizing in the informal economy, unions in the political arena, union framing and imagination, unions and atypical employment, union activism and democracy, etc.
